Sarah received degrees from Queen’s University (BA in English Lit.) and the University of Toronto (BMus, MA in Musicology). Her primary areas of inquiry include the music, technology, science, and marketplaces of early modern England and North America. Her dissertation, “Music and Bodily Health in Seventeenth-Century England,” is a cultural history of music as medicine and investigates under-considered bodies of information, including the private papers of physicians, the records of apothecary guilds, and music in the recipe books kept by women to maintain the health of their households.
