Lee holds a BFA from Simon Fraser University and an MA from the University of Chicago. Since 2019, he has chaired the Society of Music Theory’s Music and Philosophy Interest Group. His research interests are in the history of theory, particularly the twentieth century, and in musical epistemology, ontology, and the work concept.Lee’s dissertation research engages with the history of twentieth century music theory, aiming to de-center Schoenberg and to shed new light on “ultramodernist” theorists of the U.S., Mexico, and Russia.
