Lee is a graduate of Simon Fraser University (BFA, 2016) and the University of Chicago (MA, 2017). He was a Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for Fall 2022, and he is a former chair of the Society for Music Theory’s Music and Philosophy Interest Group.

In his dissertation, Lee re-evaluates the history of avant-garde music theory in the first half of the twentieth century, excavating a global intellectual network that spanned Latin America, Western and Central Europe, the United States, and Russia. His dissertation has received the Society for Music Theory’s 2024 SMT-40 Dissertation Fellowship, as well as support from the Paul Sacher Stiftung and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
