Jonathan Gómez is a Presidential Scholar in Historical Musicology interested in black nationalism and musicians’ agency in the history of jazz and other black musics. Other interests include popular and American musics, as well as those of the African diaspora. Jonathan is a jazz saxophonist and holds an M.A. in Musicology from Michigan State University and a B.M. in Studio Music and Jazz Saxophone from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
