The Fromm Players at Harvard present Piano: Sonic Revolutions

John Knowles Paine Concert Hall

Performance Dates:
Friday, April 5 at 7:30pm
Saturday, April 6 at 7:30pm and 10:00pm
Sunday, April 7 at 7:30pm

This year’s Fromm Players Concert at Harvard is a series of four concerts across three days, April 5-7, 2024. These concerts showcase the Department of Music’s two new Steinway D Grands and highlight the piano’s versatility and dynamism as an instrument that has evolved from traditional classical beginnings to a world where music and modern technology meet. The four concerts feature solo and duo works with video, electronics and live-interactions.

The Saturday late night concert is a dialogue between Vijay Iyer and Hans Tutschku, where improvisations are augmented by the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance the interplay between an improvising pianist and computer-generated voices. In real-time, improvisation will engage in a dynamic dialogue with trained, untrained, and learning agents, generating multiple voices that serve as counterparts, commentaries, and inspiration for the pianist.

Curated by Professor Hans Tutschku. Featuring special guests Catherine Vickers, Sebastian Berweck, Paavali Jumppanen, Emil Holmström, Jacopo Baboni Schilingi, Simon Ghraichy, Vijay Iyer, and Hans Tutschku.

Free event parking will be available at the Broadway Garage.
