The Harvard University Studio for Electroacoustic Composition presents two nights of HYDRA concerts in John Knowles Paine Concert Hall on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. Students of Music 167 will present a concert of fixed media works and students of Music 179 will perform solo and group improvisations with live electronics. Hans Tutschku will premiere a new version of ‘duos for one pianist’ for improviser and AI controlled Spirio grand piano.

HYDRA is comprised of 40 loudspeakers distributed horizontally and vertically around the concert hall to provide a wide range of sound planes and perspectives. Performers use the system to diffuse their sound works within the concert hall. By using the space as an instrument we are able to guide the listener through an immersive, intimate experience. Sound is rebalanced and spatialized throughout each work. Join us this Spring for a pivotal moment in our studio’s sonic history.

Free and open to all. RSVP encourage, seating is limited.
