Christina Misaki Nikitin is a Ph.D. candidate in ethnomusicology at Harvard University. Her research examines the aesthetic, cultural, and political dimensions of trans*gressive musical practices in Tokyo, Japan, focusing on how performers negotiate, subvert, and reappropriate majoritarian discourses through popular song within various subcultural scenes. She is the recipient of the 2024 Charles Seeger Prize from the Society for Ethnomusicology for her paper, “Fūzoku Queens: Trans* Migrant Sex Performers in Tokyo.” Beyond academia, she brings experience as a K–12 educator, independent consultant, and administrative assistant at educational institutions across Japan and the U.S.
