SoundLab Workshop: Listening to Vinyl III

Music Building, Classroom 9, 3 Oxford St

Join us as we gather to listen to some records!

In this installment of “Listening to Vinyl” we will first explore the history, concepts, and sounds of the Voyager Golden Record (sent off in 1977) as well as compare the original 1970’s pressing of Bitches Brew (1970) against a recent ‘Audiophile’ pressing.

Other selections will be made and presented by Peter Laurence and Seth Torres, staff members of the Music Department and Vinyl enthusiasts.

Participants are encouraged to bring records of their own that they wish to hear and/or share with the group.

As the Loeb Music Library’s Sound Recording Librarian, Peter Laurence is the Harvard Music Department’s resident vinyl expert. Peter is responsible for the library’s exhaustive collection of over 50,000 vinyl and shellac records.

Seth Torres is a Live Recording and Mix Engineer, and the Technical Director of the Harvard University Studio for Electro-acoustic Composition (HUSEAC).
