HUCA Concert: “Atlantic Connections”

Commissioned by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts (HUCA), Yosvany Terry and Alicia Hall Moran created “Atlantic Connections,” a song cycle inspired by a selection of poets from the African Diaspora, including Maya Angelou, Salgado Maranhão and Sylvie Kande. The work of these poets served as a launching point for Terry and Hall to explore themes of land, home, motherhood, love, loss, distance, displacement, and water as some of the elements that spiritually connect the peoples’ of the African Diaspora.

The piece will be performed by an ensemble with vocals by Moran, Terry on saxophone and chekeré, Fabian Almazán and David Virelles on piano and synthesizer and Yunior Terry on bass.

There will be two performances, both free and open to the public: Sept 15th, Farkas Hall at 7:30pm and Sept. 16th, Harvard Art Museums at 1:30pm.
