The Boston Music Intelligencer featured the Department of Music’s recent performance by Momenta Quartet on their website.
Excerpt: The Momenta Quartet — Emilie-Anne Gendron and Alex Shiozaki, violins; Stephanie Griffin, viola; and Michael Haas, cello — delivered a varied stylistic spectrum of three Julián Carrillo string quartets with gratifying assurance and perfect relaxation, yet with ultimate strength where needed at Harvard’s Paine Hall last night. The dynamic range was huge and confident, the tone quality and rhythmic precision impeccable. These players have announced plans to record all 13 (!) string quartets of Carrillo for Naxos Records, which will tell us even more about this very interesting vanguard Mexican.
I am very glad the Harvard Music Department encouraged the ensemble to bring Carillo to Paine Hall; I’m not sure where else in greater Boston this concert might have fit in.
