Natalie Greffel

Composer, singer, bass player, and booker for XJAZZ Festival in Berlin, Germany.

She is currently a Creative Practice / Critical Inquiry PhD student at Harvard University. As a practitioner, she is the founder and primary coordinator of New Past, an ever-evolving group of creatives. Outside of New Past, she leads her own group as a solo artist and is the musical director for Musclecars.

She has worked with artists and groups such as Angel Bat Dawid, Musclecars, Radio Citizen, Onom Agemo, and Disco Jumpers as a composer, lyricist, and bass player. Among her most significant releases is her debut album, Para Todos, released in 2020, in which Natalie drew inspiration from her African heritage while incorporating Afro-Brazilian music.

In 2023, she won the German Jazz Award for Vocalist of the Year and graduated with a Master’s degree in Performance and Composition from Wesleyan University. Her research was rooted in Black feminist thought, Black cultural mythology, and queer phenomenology, and was titled Afropean Consciousness Through Music, Myth, and Imaginagency.
